What to do if your dog ate something toxic
If your dog is having trouble breathing, is unconscious, or having seizures, call an emergency vet immediately. Don't wait.
- Remove your dog from the toxic substance
- Secure any remaining toxic food to prevent further ingestion
- Check the time and try to determine:
- What your dog ate
- How much they consumed
- When they consumed it

DO NOT induce vomiting unless specifically instructed by a veterinarian

DO NOT give milk, oil, salt, or any home remedies

DO NOT wait for symptoms to appear if you know your dog ate something toxic

DO follow the exact instructions given by the veterinarian or poison control

DO bring the packaging or a sample of the toxic substance if you go to the vet

Keep your dog calm and warm during transport

If possible, have someone drive while you attend to your dog

Call the vet clinic to let them know you're coming and what happened

Bring any packaging from the toxic substance and a sample of vomit or stool if available (in a sealed container)
